The Merlies Guide

Region 2: Forest Canopy

Overview

Where Nature Took Everything Back

The forest canopy is the dense, green layer of a world that humanity left behind. Official screenshots show mossy trunks, hanging vines and layered foliage with tiny birds picking their way along branches — for a Merlie, every branch is a walkway and every vine is a ladder. It is the biome where the squad traversal mechanics are most visible: red birds climbing in a line, pale birds gripping twigs, the flock moving as one cautious train.

Read the Vertical Layers

Canopy travel is vertical. Fallen trunks bridge gaps, mushrooms launch birds skyward, and the safe route is rarely the straight one. The official trailer repeatedly frames the flock climbing single-file up vines and branches — the image of the game itself. Because Merlies are fragile, a wrong step in the canopy costs a bird, not a health bar: route around thorns rather than through them.
